There is no single universal 8.1 L18 DBW pinout. First determine whether the donor is a 2001–2002 pre-MCE light-duty system or a 2003–2006 MCE light-duty system. Everything downstream — PCM, TAC, pedal, throttle, cam/crank orientation — follows from that. Scope: factory-documented 2001–2006 light-duty GMT800 pickups/SUVs (Silverado/Sierra 2500HD & 3500, Suburban/Yukon XL 2500, Avalanche 2500 where L18-equipped). Medium-duty is shown only for comparison. Express/Savana, Workhorse, marine, and industrial are separate systems — do not wire them off these tables.
Technical and safety notice: GM wiring varies by model year, platform, transmission, RPO, calibration, and connector orientation. Confirm the donor VIN, PCM/TAC/pedal/throttle family, circuit numbers, and terminal-face orientation against the applicable factory documentation, and perform continuity testing before applying power. Incorrect wiring can cause a no-start, Reduced Engine Power, component damage, or unsafe operation. Use this as a research reference, not a substitute for the donor-year service manual.
Connector orientation matters. A schematic cavity label is not automatically a physical terminal-face view. Confirm the latch, key, cavity marks, circuit number, and continuity on the actual donor connector before moving terminals.
Four things to photograph or record first
- PCM label + connector colours — blue/red = P01 (2001–02), blue/green = P59 (2003–06).
- TAC module label + its two connectors — this tells us pre-MCE vs. MCE (and rules out a commercial module).
- Pedal part number — 15318071 is the light-duty pedal; 15326842 is medium-duty, which does not belong here.
- Throttle connector + hardware — split motor + separate TP connector = pre-MCE; single 8-way integrated body (15326836) = MCE.
Also grab the VIN, model year, production date, engine RPO (L18), transmission RPO, PCM service number, PCM hardware number, OS/calibration IDs (scan tool), TAC label, ground locations, splice packs, and underhood fuse-panel labels. Keep the pedal-to-TAC firewall sub-harness intact.

Medium-duty warning: 2003/04 C-series uses TAC 25311787, J2 12065425, pedal 15326842, split throttle. 2005 C-series uses integrated 15326836 but pedal 15326842 with tool-line pins. Same throttle PN ≠ same harness. Don’t mix them.

P01 vs P59
- Blue/red = P01 (2001–02). Blue/green = P59 (2003–06). That family ID is reliable.
- Service numbers are not universal. 12200411 (P01) and 12576106/HW12570558 (P59) are common leads, not a guarantee for every VIN. Read the donor label and do a VIN-based ACDelco/SPS calibration lookup.
- A non-L18 P59 is only a hardware base after a complete compatible L18 OS/calibration is loaded. No blind segment swap.
- What must stay together: PCM hardware supporting the full L18 cal; TAC + pedal + pedal-to-TAC sub-harness within one verified family. Same donor is safest.
- The only proven cross-family throttle match is 15326836 between MCE LD and 2005 MD — that proves one assembly’s electrical layout, not full ETC-system interchange.

Cam/crank warning
Swap the outer cam/crank cavities only when adapting the common Gen III LS truck connector layout to a verified 2001–2002 pre-MCE L18. On 2003–2006 MCE L18 the layout already matches the LS truck comparator, so do NOT swap. Wire supply-to-supply, low-ref-to-low-ref, signal-to-signal — by circuit function and PCM destination, not by colour or cavity letter. Reversing supply and signal gets you a no-start and cam/crank codes; don’t power up a miswired sensor.

Standalone minimum circuits (grouped)
- Required to crank/start/run: PCM constant B+ (fused); switched ignition + state; multiple PCM grounds (keep sensor low-ref off them); cam + crank (right year); 8 injectors + feed; 8 coils + feed; fuel-pump relay control (pump on its own protected feed); TAC 15A ETC feed + clean TAC ground; TAC serial pair 1061/774; pedal + throttle circuits (don’t mix eras); DLC 2/4/5/16.
- Required for safe DBW/drivability: brake input 1320 (do not omit if you want normal factory DBW behaviour); MAF/IAT, MAP, ECT; front O2s; VSS; range/PNP.
- Transmission-dependent: 4L80E shift/TCC/pressure/temp/range/VSS or Allison serial + torque interface (don’t treat Allison as a 4L80E pinout).
- Emissions-dependent (cal + legal review to delete): rear O2, EVAP, AIR.
- Optional: A/C request/clutch, tach, gauges, fan outputs, PTO/cruise.
- Must not be casually removed: sensor low references (never to actuator/chassis ground); TAC brake + serial circuits.
This is a minimum-retained-circuit map for the verified family, not a universal plug-and-play standalone manual. Exact needs are application-, transmission-, and emissions-dependent.

- Confirm donor family + component pairing → 2. Read all DTCs → 3. Battery/charging voltage → 4. PCM + TAC feeds → 5. PCM + TAC grounds → 6. Dedicated low-reference circuits → 7. TAC serial 1061/774 → 8. APP tracks → 9. TP tracks → 10. Throttle-motor circuits → 11. Brake input → 12. Cam/crank wiring by function → 13. Connector tension/terminal damage → 14. PCM OS/calibration compatibility → 15. Transmission/VSS/range inputs.
Relevant DTC families: P1120/P1125 (APP), P1220/P1221 (TP/APP correlation), P1516 (TAC performance), P2101/P2119-class, TAC comm codes, 5V-ref codes, P0335/P0336 (CKP), P0340/P0341 (CMP), P0016/P1345 (cam/crank correlation), P0500/P0502/P0503 (VSS), brake rationality, P0705/P0850 (range). Explicitly excluded platforms
Express/Savana, Workhorse, motorhome chassis, marine (MEFI-4), industrial, crate-engine packages, and aftermarket control systems all require separate factory documentation and are outside these light-duty pinout tables. A shared engine code or a connector that physically plugs in does not prove wiring compatibility.
