If you’re running a 1988–1998 C/K, Tahoe, Yukon, or Suburban, the front end is one of the easiest places to modernize the truck without killing the classic OBS look. Sequential LED clear corner lights are one of the cleanest upgrades you can do.
This post breaks down what they are, what fits, wiring considerations, and whether they’re worth it on your GMT400.
What These Are
Sequential LED clear corners replace your factory front upper and lower grille marker/turn signal assemblies.
Typical kit includes:
-
2x upper grille marker/turn lamps
-
2x lower grille marker/turn lamps
-
Clear lens housing
-
Integrated amber LED strips
-
Sequential turn signal function
They’re designed for Chevy OBS trucks. Always double check the listing matches your truck year as 1988–1993 is slightly different than 1994-1998 trucks.
What “Sequential” Means
Instead of the entire lamp flashing at once, the LEDs sweep across in segments when signaling. These sequential LEDs also add lights to the upper clear corners (which is a nice upgrade from factory)!
Factory:
-
Single filament flash on lower only
-
On / Off
Sequential LED:
-
Multi-segment sweep for upper and lower
-
More visible in daylight
-
Modern “dynamic” look
It’s the same concept newer vehicles use from the factory.
Here is a video of them in action:

Why Upgrade?
1. Visibility
LED output is brighter and reacts faster than incandescent 1157/3157 bulbs.
2. Modern Look Without Ruining the Truck
Clear lens + amber LED keeps it clean.
Doesn’t scream “cheap eBay mod” if you choose a quality housing.
Chrome and Black options exist, which can match your color scheme.
3. No Bulb Maintenance
No more replacing burned-out dual-filament bulbs.
Wiring and Other Considerations
Most of these are plug-and-play, but you will need to drill a hole in the upper grille to run the wiring as these add a light to the upper clear corner. The factory 194 turn signal bulb provides power to the lower clear corner, which then ties into the upper clear corner. There are gaskets on the upper to lower connection, but I chose to tape up the connection between the upper and lower clear corner just in case. I used 3M Super 88 tape to secure the connections.
It would also be helpful to apply a dielectric grease (Think Grote UltraSeal or similar) to your OBS truck’s factory pigtails. This can help keep corrosion and moisture out.
Another note: For any new headlight/lense installations I find it helpful to apply a quality Headlight Ceramic coating to the lenses. From there, I think it’s best to ceramic coat once a year to keep the housings shiny.
Ground Quality
OBS trucks are notorious for:
-
Weak grounds
-
Corrosion in front harness
If one side acts weird:
-
Check ground
-
Clean connector
-
Verify voltage under load
Are They FSC Approved?
For a GMT400 build:
-
Stock restoration → Probably stay OEM amber lens
-
Street build / lowered OBS → Yes
-
Lifted show truck → Yes
-
Daily driver refresh → Good upgrade
They modernize the front end without deleting the OBS identity.
Things to Check Before Buying
-
Confirm your exact year
-
Confirm 88–93 vs 94–98 front clip
-
Make sure you have all mounting nuts from original corner lenses
Final Take
Sequential LED clear corners are a solid visual and functional upgrade for early OBS GMT400 trucks. They improve signal visibility, sharpen the front-end appearance, and eliminate aging incandescent bulbs.
If you’re rebuilding the front end during a grille swap, headlight upgrade, or full lighting refresh, this is the time to do it.
