The 2019+ Silverado/Sierra 1500 Max Trailering Package significantly increases towing capacity. Here’s what’s in the package and what it does.
Standard vs Max Tow Capacity:
Without Max Tow Package: Up to ~11,000 lbs (with 5.3L)
With Max Tow Package: Up to 13,400 lbs (5.3L) or 13,300 lbs (6.2L with 10-speed)

- 3.42 rear axle ratio (vs standard 3.23) – better low-speed towing leverage
- Additional transmission cooler – extended-capacity external cooler
- Larger brake system – improved stopping power with trailer
- Hitch guidance camera – camera assist for hitching in cab display
- 7-pin trailer connector (if not standard)
- Integrated Trailer Brake Control (on applicable trims)
The Axle Ratio Impact:
The 3.42 axle ratio vs 3.23 provides noticeably better towing performance, especially on grades. The trade-off is slightly lower highway fuel economy (about 0.5–1 MPG).

Do You Need the Max Tow Package?
If you tow over 10,000 lbs regularly, yes – the extra trans cooler and axle ratio make a real difference. For lighter towing (under 8,000 lbs), the standard package is sufficient.
