Lowering your classic C10 transforms the stance and dramatically improves handling. Two main approaches dominate: drop spindles and lowering springs.
Drop Spindles – Best for Mild Lowering (2-3")
Drop spindles lower the front of the truck by relocating the wheel centerline upward relative to the suspension geometry. They maintain factory suspension travel, don’t affect camber aggressively, and are generally the safest method for daily driving.
The 2.5" Front Drop Spindle Kit for C10 73-87 is a popular bolt-on option — similar kits exist for the 1963–1972 body style. Look for CNC-machined spindles with stock geometry in mind.
Lowering Springs – Best for Driver Feel
Lowering springs reduce front ride height by shortening the coil, which also stiffens the suspension. Combined with quality shocks, they provide excellent road feel and a sportier stance. You can typically achieve 2–4" of drop.
For the rear, most builders use a combination of de-arching or flipping the leaf spring pack combined with a shackle flip.
Pro Tips:
- Always combine dropped spindles with quality lowering shocks
- Rear leaf springs: de-arch before you cut
- Check for tire-to-fender clearance before committing
- A 2" front / 3" rear drop gives a nose-high “California rake” look
