Leveling Your K2XX Silverado/Sierra: Best Kits & What to Expect

Leveling your 2014–2018 K2XX Silverado or Sierra is one of the most popular first mods — removes the factory rake, allows larger tires, and improves the stance with a bolt-on install. Here’s what to know before you buy.

What is a Leveling Kit?

The K2XX from the factory sits lower in the front than the rear (this is called “rake”) by about 1.5"–2". A leveling kit adds spacers on top of the front struts to bring the nose up to match the rear.

Typical leveling kits: 1.5" to 2.5" front lift only.

Types of Leveling Kits

Strut Spacers (Most Common)

Billet aluminum spacers that sit between the top of the strut and the strut tower. Simple, effective, reversible.

  • Pros: Easy install (2–3 hours DIY), inexpensive ($40–$120), no geometry changes on minor lifts
  • Cons: Very large spacers (2.5"+) can slightly change strut angle; buy quality — cheap spacers can crack

Strut Extension Plates

Similar to spacers but mount differently; some brands offer an extended plate that bolts into the OEM strut holes.

What Fits After a Leveling Kit?

Leveling Amount Stock Tire Max Tire (No Trimming)
Stock (no lift) 265/60R20 265/70R17 or 275/55R20
1.5"–2" level 265/70R17 285/70R17
2.5" level 285/70R17 295/70R17 (may need backspace check)

Check your specific wheel offset before going to 285s+ — backspacing matters.

Recommended Kit

The Rough Country 1307 1.5"–2" Leveling Kit for K2XX is one of the most proven options for the 2014–2018 platform — billet strut spacers, hardware included, straightforward install.

Install Overview

  1. Lift vehicle and support on jack stands
  2. Remove front wheel
  3. Compress the strut spring (spring compressor required for full strut removal)
  4. Remove the three top strut nuts at the strut tower
  5. Install spacer on top of the strut assembly
  6. Reinstall strut, torque to spec
  7. Repeat opposite side
  8. Get an alignment after install — critical to avoid uneven tire wear

Important Notes

  • Alignment is mandatory after any leveling kit — do not skip this
  • Leveling kits will use up some of your front suspension travel — this is normal
  • On Z71 trucks (with factory Rancho shocks), a 2.5"+ spacer may start to compress the shock beyond its design range; a shock replacement may be recommended
