Leveling Kit GMT800 1500 – Before and After

A leveling kit is one of the most popular mods on the 1999–2006 GMT800 1500. Here’s a before and after guide to what to expect.

What Is a Leveling Kit?
A leveling kit adds a spacer on top of the front strut/spring to raise the front of the truck, eliminating the factory nose-down rake. The result is a level stance and room for slightly larger tires.

Before the Leveling Kit:
The factory GMT800 1500 sits with the front 1–2" lower than the rear. This is intentional for handling when loaded, but it looks “tucked under” when the bed is empty.

After the Leveling Kit:
Rough Country 1307 2" Leveling Kit – Raises the front 2" to match the rear. The truck looks level and more aggressive.

Visual Results:

  • Front to rear: Level
  • Tire gap: More even front to rear
  • Stance: More upright, fills fenders better

Tire Size Improvement:
Stock (leveled): Fits 265/70R17 or 285/55R20 without rubbing

Required Alignment After Level:
Front alignment is required. Caster and camber settings change after leveling. Budget $80–$120 for alignment.

Shock Replacement Recommended?
The leveling kit does not require new shocks if the originals are in good shape. If over 75K miles, consider replacing shocks at the same time.
