Leveling Kit for 1999–2007 Silverado: 2-Inch Spacer vs Strut Extension vs Full Lift

The 1999–2007 Silverado and Sierra sit with a slight nose-down rake from the factory. A leveling kit corrects this and gives the front end a more aggressive stance. There are three main approaches: spacer leveling, strut extension, and full lift kits.

SPACER LEVELING KITS (1.5"–2.5")

  • Bolt on top of the front strut or torsion bar key — quick and cheap
  • Gets the front level with the rear or slightly higher
  • Good for fitting 33" tires without trimming
  • No alignment adjustment usually needed at 2" or less
  • Best value option if you just want level and maybe a slightly taller tire

STRUT EXTENSION LEVELING

  • Replaces the upper strut mount — maintains proper strut geometry
  • Better ride quality than stacking spacers above the strut
  • Some kits include extended upper control arms for ideal geometry

FULL LIFT KITS (4"–6")

  • Requires new upper control arms, longer shocks, and sometimes a differential drop
  • Needed for 35" or larger tires
  • More involved install — expect 4–8 hours in the shop

SHOCKS MATTER

  • Leveling kits raise the front but your stock shocks are now over-extended
  • Run Bilstein 5100 series shocks set to the leveled height — designed specifically for this
  • DO NOT run stock shocks extended — they blow out quickly

TIRE SIZING WITH A LEVEL

  • Stock: 265/65R18 (32.6")
  • 2" level: 265/70R18 (33.6") or 285/65R18 (33.5") — may need minor trimming
  • 2.5" level: 285/70R18 (34.8") — usually needs trimming in one spot
