The MyLink infotainment system in the 2014–2018 K2XX Silverado/Sierra can freeze, glitch, or become unresponsive. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix it.
Common MyLink Issues:
- Touchscreen freezes on startup or while driving
- Screen goes black randomly
- Backup camera not displaying
- Bluetooth/radio functions not responding
- Map/navigation freezing
Quick Fix: Factory Reset
Most MyLink freeze issues can be resolved with a factory reset:
- Hold the Power/Volume knob for 10 seconds – forces a soft restart
- Or: Settings → Return to Factory Settings (this erases saved profiles)
Battery / Power Issues:
If MyLink is unstable after a battery replacement or disconnect, it may need a recalibration cycle. Drive the vehicle for 15–30 minutes to allow all modules to relearn.
Software Updates:
GM releases MyLink software updates that address known bugs. Check for updates at the dealer or through the GMC/Chevrolet app.
- Updates can be loaded via USB from the GM update portal
- Dealer can also push updates via WiFi
Hardware Fix: Module Replacement
If the touchscreen hardware itself has failed (lines on screen, dead spots), the RVCM (Radio/Video Control Module) may need replacement.
Common Version: MyLink Gen 8" vs 8" MyLink 2.0:
The 2014–2015 models use an older MyLink version while 2016–2018 has the updated interface. The hardware is not interchangeable.
Innova 5310 OBD2 Scanner – Useful for checking if there are any U-codes (communication errors) that might indicate a CAN bus issue affecting MyLink.
