K2XX Infotainment Upgrade: MyLink Swap, Apple CarPlay & Screen Options

The factory MyLink infotainment system in the 2014–2018 K2XX trucks works fine for basic use, but it lacks Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the responsiveness of a modern unit. Here are your upgrade options.

Option 1: OEM Software / Screen Update

If your truck has an older MyLink version, a dealer software update may unlock some features or improve stability. This is free if under warranty and worth trying first before spending money.

Limitation: CarPlay/Android Auto cannot be retrofitted to most stock MyLink screens — the hardware isn’t compatible.

Option 2: Aftermarket Android Head Unit (Best Bang for Buck)

A fully custom Android head unit replaces the factory radio with a modern touchscreen that has:

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Built-in navigation
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • Backup camera input (compatible with factory cam wiring)
  • OBD display integration

The Android Car Radio for 2014–2018 Silverado/Sierra with Wireless CarPlay is a direct-fit replacement with a 10.1" screen — fits the factory radio opening with the included dash kit and connects to factory steering wheel controls.

Key specs: 8-core processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, GPS, WiFi, 4G hotspot support.

Option 3: Factory Screen Replacement (Original MyLink + Add-On)

Some owners use a third-party CarPlay/Android Auto adapter that plugs into the factory USB port and mirrors to the stock screen. Performance varies — this is a compromise solution.

What to Check Before Buying

  1. Confirm your current screen size — 7" or 8" MyLink in K2XX; make sure the replacement fits
  2. Steering wheel controls — aftermarket units need a CAN bus adapter; most include one
  3. Backup camera — factory camera harness usually plugs directly into the new unit
  4. Bose audio — if you have the Bose system, some units may not integrate perfectly with amp; check compatibility before buying

Install Tips

  • Disconnect the battery before removing the factory unit
  • Use a trim removal tool to avoid cracking the dash bezel — the K2XX dash plastic is snug
  • Label all harness connectors before unplugging
  • Test everything before final reassembly
