The 2019+ T1XX Silverado/Sierra comes with GM’s Connected Services suite. After the trial period ends, you’re asked to subscribe. Is it worth the cost? Here’s the breakdown.
What’s Included in GM Connected Services (OnStar/myChevrolet):
- Automatic Crash Response: Emergency services notification after an airbag deployment or crash
- Emergency Services: Call emergency services from the truck with a push of the blue OnStar button
- Stolen Vehicle Assistance: Locate and assist recovery of a stolen vehicle
- Remote Access: Lock/unlock, start/stop remotely via app
- Vehicle Diagnostics: Check codes, tire pressure, oil life remotely
- 4G LTE Hotspot: WiFi connectivity for passengers
- OTA Updates: Over-the-air infotainment and calibration updates
What’s Free Forever:
- Automatic Crash Response (base level)
- Emergency Services (basic)
- 3 years of complimentary WiFi data (3 GB/month)
What Requires Subscription:
- Remote start and lock/unlock via app
- Extended WiFi data beyond trial
- Advanced Diagnostics and Alerts
- Stolen Vehicle Assistance (full package)
Cost:
Plans range from ~$15/month (basic Remote Access) to $30+/month (full Connected package).
Is It Worth It?
For most owners: The remote start via app is the most popular feature. If you regularly use it in extreme weather, it pays for itself in convenience. The safety features (crash response) are arguably worth the subscription alone.
The Free Alternative:
A basic OBD2 Bluetooth adapter and app (Torque, OBD Fusion) can replicate some diagnostic features at zero recurring cost.
