From Stock Tint to Nitrous: My Truck Through Its Stages
Been tearing it apart since I bought it new, finally putting it all in one thread.
Stock to First Lift
- Started dead stock except tint.
- At 7k miles threw on a 3" body lift.
- Ran 17x8 Weld Mountain Crushers with 285 BFG ATs, Ford keys, and 4" rear blocks before moving to a SuperLift kit with 5.5" blocks.
Tire Growth and Towering
After the SuperLift, I slid 37" BFG MTs with 4.56 gears and a TruTrac in, did a shackle flip, an AAL, and another crank. Cranked even more, added a 2" block, and once those 37"s were towered I went to 39.5" Iroks with 5.13s, long-tube headers, a mild tune, and a Magnaflow muffler with dumps.
Axles and Traction
Waited too long for the 10-bolt to blow, so I swapped in a 14FF with 5.38s, an Air Locker, discs, zero-rate springs, and cheap Pro Comp 17x9s I did not have to polish. That combo drew cops, ran for a couple years, and they finally pulled me off the road for being too tall.
Downsize and Performance Trade-off
Forced to drop to 36" Iroks and Chevy tails to stay legal, but I cranked the suspension a bit, tossed in a 2" block with zero rate, and grabbed tow mirrors. Figured if I couldn’t run 40" anymore I would make it faster, so I added a TSP220 cam, Circle D 3200 stall, TBSS intake, BB Auto-Cal tune, a cat, and a Bullet/Magnaflow to quiet it a bit. Also installed airbags so I can raise the truck 4" and crank the front when I still want to tower over everyone.
Future Power Moves
Then the TSP cam got boring, so I went to a PatG/EPS-ground 223/226 610/605 110+4 cam with TEA .660 dual springs and titanium retainers, plus a Circle D 36-3700 stall and a nitrous kit I’ll spray at 150. Picked up a 6L, plan to drop L92 heads on it, spec a cam for 400-450 rwhp, then spray; the L33 stays in the wife’s truck for now and might end up in her Tahoe. The wife drove it and now wants more power too. A Ford HP D60 sits in the bed waiting for SAS when funds allow. I’m still deciding whether to go legal 40" with wide rims and flares or keep 36-37" with wider wheels.
Photos, Random Gear, and Props
Thread has random pics of the truck hauling that D60 with other junk, plus my brother’s rig running 325 Terra Grapplers, 3" BL, Ford keys, and 4" blocks. Later I dropped a couple new snaps while talking about picking up the 6L.
What People Said
Replies just kept saying it looked sick and that the cops ruined the tall look. Other replies celebrated how great it looked sitting at the highest lift.
