Classic C10 speaker options are limited by the original dash and door locations. Here’s how to upgrade audio without cutting new holes.
Factory Speaker Locations in Classic C10:
- Under the dash/center: Original location for the AM radio speaker. Typically a single 4" or 6" speaker in a bracket hanging under the dash center.
- Door speakers: NOT factory on most classic trucks — doors were not prepared for speakers.
Best No-Modification Upgrades:
1. Drop-In Under-Dash Speaker
A 4" or 6" quality replacement speaker in the original location makes a significant improvement. Use an automotive speaker with proper sensitivity rating (90+ dB) since most classic truck head units don’t have much power.
2. Custom Kick Panel Speakers
Many resto-mod builds add 5.25" or 6.5" speakers in custom fiberglass or ABS kick panel pods that replace the factory kick panels. No door cutting required.
3. Behind-the-Seat Subwoofer
A compact under-seat powered subwoofer can be tucked behind the bench seat for added bass without taking up cab space.
Amplifier Note
If you run more than 2 speakers, a small 4-channel amp (50-100W per channel) dramatically improves clarity and volume. The Kissound Double DIN has subwoofer output that pairs well with a compact amp.
