The GMT800 (1999–2006) Silverado/Sierra is another truck with a double DIN radio opening and straightforward head unit installation.
GMT800 Radio Platform
GMT800 trucks use a standard 7" double DIN opening. The factory stereo was basic — an AM/FM/CD unit with optional aux input on later models. Modern aftermarket upgrades bring Apple CarPlay, touchscreen navigation, and significantly better audio quality.
Top Head Unit Options:
1. Kissound 7" with Wireless CarPlay (Best Value)
The Kissound 7" Double DIN is the best bang-for-buck option. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto eliminate cable clutter, and the 240W amplifier drives speakers well without an external amp.
2. Pioneer DMH-A3450NEX
Pioneer’s mid-range option with capacitive touchscreen, Apple CarPlay (wired), and HD Radio. Very reliable with excellent Pioneer audio quality.
3. Kenwood DDX6706S
Kenwood’s double DIN with 6.8" screen and built-in navigation maps. Good for trucks used in areas with spotty cell service.
Installation:
GMT800 requires a specific Metra or Scosche dash kit. The factory truck uses a GM-specific harness connector — a wiring adapter makes installation clean and reversible.
Subwoofer Addition:
Once you have a quality head unit, adding a compact under-seat powered subwoofer fills in the low end. The preamp outputs on the Kissound unit can drive any passive subwoofer system.
