Best Backup Camera Upgrade for K2XX Silverado

The K2XX Silverado came with optional backup camera depending on trim. If yours doesn’t have it, or if you want to upgrade, here’s the guide.

K2XX Factory Camera Status

Factory backup cameras on K2XX models are integrated into the tailgate handle (higher trims) or available as a dealer option. The camera feeds into the MyLink screen when in reverse.

Adding a Backup Camera if You Don’t Have One:

Option 1: OEM-Style Retrofit

A factory-style reverse camera specifically for K2XX installs in the tailgate handle and connects to the MyLink system. These maintain OEM appearance and integrate seamlessly with the factory screen.

Option 2: License Plate Mount Camera

The GLK License Plate Backup Camera is an affordable option that mounts at the rear license plate. Compatible with the reverse camera input on most aftermarket head units.

Option 3: Wireless Camera System

Wireless backup cameras eliminate the need to run wires from the tailgate through the cab. Better for trucks where running wires is difficult.

Integration with Head Unit:

If you have an aftermarket Kissound Double DIN or similar unit, the backup camera connects to the rear input and triggers automatically when you shift into reverse.

Tailgate Cam Note:

If your K2XX has the factory camera and it’s not working, the most common causes are:

  • Camera pig-tail connector corrosion at the tailgate hinge
  • Cracked tailgate harness from opening/closing cycles
  • MyLink calibration issue (software reset often fixes it)
