A quality amplifier transforms any truck audio system. Here’s how to choose the right amp and install it properly.
Why Add an Amplifier?
Even high-quality head units typically output 20-30W per channel real-world power. This isn’t enough for clean audio at truck highway speeds. An amplifier with 50-100W per channel brings:
- Higher volume without distortion
- Better bass response
- Cleaner signal delivery to speakers
Amplifier Types:
2-Channel Amp: Powers 2 speakers or 1 subwoofer in bridged mode. Best for adding just a sub.
4-Channel Amp: Powers front and rear speakers. Best for full speaker system upgrade without adding a sub.
5-Channel Amp: Powers 4 speakers + 1 sub. Best complete solution.
Monoblock: Powers a single subwoofer. Maximum bass output.
Recommended Amps for Trucks:
- Rockford Fosgate R150X2 – 150W 2-channel. Perfect for powering a sub or front speakers.
- Kenwood KAC-M1824BT – 4-channel 500W total. Good full-system amp.
- Alpine MRV-M500 – Monoblock 500W for serious subwoofer power.
Signal Source:
Get signal from the head unit’s preamp outputs. The Kissound 7" Double DIN has 2V RCA preamp outputs compatible with all amplifiers.
Installation Essentials:
- Power wire kit (4-6 AWG from battery)
- Inline fuse holder
- RCA signal cables (quality matters)
- Remote turn-on wire from head unit
