Been having trouble with my Silverado 1500. It started with an intermittent vibration when driving that got much worse under braking. I replaced the rotors, pads, and calipers on the front, new rotors and pads on the back. They were worn, so I figured it cured it. After a week or so, it came back. I talked to a friend who is a retired Chevy Dealership mechanic, and he said to replace the front brake hoses. I did that and the problem was solved, for about a year. It’s back again. I’ve ordered new hoses again and will replace them this next weekend, hoping for the best. Has anyone else run across this problem? Thanks!
Hi there and thank you for posting! I haven’t run across that exact one yet, but a few things come to mind and my first thought is trapped pressure inside of a brake line (caused by MC or pedal not returning, or maybe ABS module not operating properly), causing a brake to drag intermittently.
How bad is the vibration when driving? Does it get worse the more you drive (and the more your brake)?. If so, I’d be checking for brake drag with the front wheels off the ground. Jack the front end up, spin each wheel normally (noting any brake drag without brakes depressed). Check both sides, also check wheel bearings as well. If all seems fine with wheels off the ground when it’s cold I’d then take it for a quick test ride.
Take it for a burn up to operating temp, with some normal stops, then try it again. Jack it up again, spin wheels again, checking both sides. If one is noticeably tighter than it was cold or than the other one, that would be the problem area/line and from there you have a starting point to look at.
It sounds to me like it could be a caliper not releasing - air bubble in the system etc. Culprit could be master cylinder or pedal not returning or even the ABS module holding a valve partly closed!

I went ahead and ordered new lines for both sides and installed them on Saturday. So far, so good. the vibration is gone, at least for now. I’ve had a couple of mechanics tell me that some of the hoses do ten to go bad. we’ll see. Thanks.

It does seem very odd that the newer brake hoses tend to go bad!
