Why the Wiring Stresses People Out
The LS engine family uses a fully computer-controlled system. To run an LS in a C10 that had a carbureted SBC, you need to either:
- Use a pre-made standalone harness (easiest)
- Modify the factory truck harness
- Build a custom harness from scratch
Option 1: Standalone Harness (Recommended for Most Builds)
A standalone LS harness strips out all the non-essential wiring from the factory ECM harness, leaving only what’s needed to run the engine. You keep your factory C10 body wiring completely separate.

What the Harness Connects:
- ECM/PCM
- Fuel injectors (all 8)
- Ignition coils

Fuel System Requirements:
The LS requires a high-pressure fuel injection system. You’ll need:

- Stainless or EFI-rated fuel line
What ECM to Use:
- LS1 (F-body, 1997–2002): Most common swap engine – use stock ECM with standalone harness
- LS Vortec trucks (4.8/5.3/6.0, 1999+): Works great, requires appropriate harness
PCM Programming:
